There’s one thing you need to bear in mind when buying a sofa for your home or you risk regretting your decision, an expert says.
Buying a sofa can be expensive and it’s not always an easy choice as there’s so many different things to consider from shape to size and pattern.
Paulina Wojas, Interior Designer at Lovesofas, says: “Buying a new sofa is an exciting way to refresh your home without the cost of a full renovation. However, the process can also be stressful, especially when people fall into these common traps when buying a new settee.” Prioritising style at the expense of comfort can be a serious error when it comes to new sofa shopping, she says.
Paulina adds: “While first impressions are important and it’s tempting to choose a sofa based on appearance, it’s crucial that you thoroughly consider every factor before purchasing.”
She says prioritising style over comfort may lead to a more trendy piece for your home; however, the reality will soon set in as you’re left with an uncomfortable settee.
Focusing on the sofa’s appearance rather than comfort and function can cause discomfort and lead you to neglect relaxation for aesthetics.
Paulina says: “That’s why it’s crucial to find a piece that resonates with your interior taste but also meets your comfort and functional needs.
“Make sure to test out the sofa before purchasing and trying different fabrics and shapes to ensure you find the right settee for you.”
But this isn’t the only thing you need to consider.
While this might sound like an obvious one, many people forget to take measurements of the space the sofa is planned to fit in.
Not taking measurements beforehand risks purchasing the wrong-sized sofa and you don’t want to end up with a sofa that doesn’t fit.
Paulina also says sofa-buyers shouldn’t follow trends when buying a sofa – even though it can have a visual appeal, it may also risk the design becoming outdated.
She says: “Curved, patterned, and modular sofas are currently taking the interiors industry by storm, and while these styles work well for different aesthetics, those who seek a long-lasting settee should avoid impulse purchases based on trends and instead opt for a timeless piece.”
By following these simple few tips, you can ensure you won’t make any mistakes and your sofa will be one that you’re happy with and that will last.
