If your windows are constantly cloudy and wet you likely have a condensation problem, and it needs to be dealt with quickly to avoid mould coming into your home.
When warm humid air from indoors comes into contact with cold glass it causes condensation to form on windows and moisture to build up on the surface.
Mould can only survive in an area with lots of moisture, and it will quickly get onto your windowsill, underneath wallpaper and even on your furniture if you do not clear condensation.
Some people clean condensation from their windows every day, but this can be time-consuming and frustrating as it will always come back daily.
However, Nancy Birtwhistle, a natural cleaning expert, has shared that there is a quick and easy way to stop condensation from forming on your windows.
In an Instagram video, Nancy said: “Paper towel with a single drop [of] eco-friendly washing up liquid. Wipe over whilst mopping up the condensation. Doesn’t steam up again.”
It may seem simple, but washing up liquid is one of the best ways to prevent condensation as it creates a thin barrier that reduces the surface tension of water.
This stops water droplets from being able to form so the condensation has to spread more onto a surface and will then evaporate more quickly.
All you need to do is apply a tiny amount of any washing-up liquid to a paper towel and wipe it on a foggy window panel.
The washing-up liquid will have to be reapplied eventually but Nancy showed her cleared windows two weeks after cleaning it and there was still no condensation on it.
It was only after three weeks that Nancy noticed a small amount of condensation forming at the edges of the glass.
Nancy said: “Three weeks later…it’s just starting to breach a little bit there.”
This is a cheap yet highly effective way to deal with condensation during the cold weather without having to spend lots of time cleaning your windows or spending lots of money on a dehumidifier.
In Nancy’s comment section, she confirmed this cleaning trick will also work to clear the inside of car windows and many also shared it had worked for them.
