Genius tip to remove glue from plastic with kitchen item

A social media user has revealed the best way to get sticky glue off plastic without ruining the plastic item.

People try all kinds of tricks to get this sticky residue off of plastic items – from warm water to vinegar or alcohol.

One Reddit user said they had brought a new plastic ruler, which they were struggling to clear the sticker residue off after purchasing.

They wrote: “I peel off the sticker but you know, half of it peels perfectly and the rest just leaves paper and glue… So I start scratching and use a spoon and a bank card but it doesn’t work so I go on the net!

“Acetone, alcohol, vinegar or peanut butter are the most common suggestions, so I try acetone and it leaves a big vague stain on the clear plastic… alcohol less so but same, vinegar does nothing and I’m not trying peanut butter.

“And then a site said to try oil.. just a bit of sunflower or olive oil and gently rub with kitchen paper. I’m sceptical but… MAGIC! So nice and clean and no residue or damage haze! Lifesaver!”

A commenter on the post said: “This also works with band aids and wound dressings! If you have a band aid on a hairy arm, put on some oil and let it soak for a bit. Does not work well with waterproof ones for obvious reasons.

“You can lift the band aid up a little bit and get some oil underneath while lifting it off your skin. If you have a wound bandage that has stuck to the wound, soak the whole bandage in oil. And lift very gently.”
