Get rid of lingering smells from your home with inexpensive and quick method

Lingering smells can be frustrating and hard to get rid of for homeowners. While most people opt for fragrances and candles, others have recommended a simple and free method to displace musky smells.

A homeowner posted on The Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips group on Facebook to ask for advice. She said her husband suffers from asthma and the couple were on the look out for a natural way to get rid of smells from their home. The Facebook group, which has around 536,000 followers, helps people share cleaning tips and tricks alongside product recommendations.

Kate Mary posted in the group: “Does anyone have tips of making your house smell nice that doesn’t involve things like scented candles or air fresheners? My husband is asthmatic and these things tend to trigger wheezing. So looking for an alternative coz our house always smells kinda musty, despite being clean!”

The post has since amassed 65 comments, with a number of people agreeing on one solution. They said the best way to ensure your house is smelling fresh is to open windows.

IntelligentShrimp888 said: “Windows open for a couple of hours a day. Keeps the house fresh.” Jill Marrs wrote: “Get those windows slightly ajar at all times.”

Kate Mary put: “Open your windows.” Andi Taylor advised: “Open windows as much as possible.” Farhana Vawda added: “Early morning air is the best. Crisp air, is another level.”

Mo Hutchinson put: “I would just go for plenty of fresh air if he’s asthmatic. Let it have a good blow through at some point in the day. Don’t spray any sort of aerosol as they all linger in the air.”

The best time to open windows is after cooking or showering. Extractor fans can also be used in kitchens of bathrooms to get rid of lingering smells.

As well as opening windows, doors can also be opened to help air circulate. This is also best done after cooking or showering.
