Mom asks how to make berries last longer – and gets very unexpected responses

A lot of the time, berries go bad prematurely.

Facing this problem, a mom took to social media platform Reddit to inquire about how she could store her berries for much longer since they are a big part of her and her family’s diet.

Posting to Reddit, she said: “One of my children loves raspberries and we tend to eat quite a few berries as a family.

“Even when I try to choose the freshest-looking berries at the grocery, they still tend to go bad so quickly.

“I keep them in a properly humidified fruit drawer and am still struggling with this. Does anyone have any tips as to how to make berries last longer?”

Redditors had different suggestions.

“I used this to keep berries from damage when I had to hold them for a day or two before I baked a cobbler with them. I will eat them raw while preparing to cook them and they were fine.”

And with a more unique solution, someone else said: “Have they tried eating frozen raspberries? I adore raspberries, and as well as fresh ones, I like having frozen ones – it’s like mini sorbets. Mutes the flavour a little but more refreshing.

“As an ‘and’ rather than an ‘or’ having frozen ones on hand could work well. Might need to try a few different shops to find ones you like as different stores use different varieties and some taste nicer than others. In the UK I like Tesco’s frozen raspberries.”
